Tasting NotesBasket Press Syrah

Yvonne Lorkin in the Herald's Canvas magazine on the 2018 Basket Press Syrah in October:
"Grant Edmonds has a freakish gift for creating red wines that stamp themselves on your brain, grip your gums and don't let go. He has a tiny vineyard on Maraekakaho Road, smack bang in the middle of the Bridge Pa Triangle that turns out intensely concentrated Syrah time and time again. Scented with pepper, violets, plum, cranberry and such a succulent, saucy mouthfeel, it's dangerously easy to drink."

2018 Basket Press Syrah  -  90/100  4 stars
Ripe, dark fruit with subtle floral characters along with slightly more muscular tannins define this elegant and complex wine. Finely balanced, it will develop over 8-10 years in the bottle.

90/100 - Four stars
"Moderately concentrated syrah with plum, blueberry, blackberry, pepper and spicy oak flavours supported by ripe tannins and good acidity. A subtle suggestion of fresh herbs adds complexity. Should develop well with bottle age."
Bob Campbell - The Real Review 17 April 2019

2013 Basket Press Syrah - 95 points   5 stars
"Deeply tinted red with chocolate, licorice, plum, dark berry and black pepper flavours. A structure of ripe tannins makes the wine easy to appreciate now but provides cellaring potential. An elegant wine with power."
