The 2009 Chardonnay continues to trundle out the door, with a healthy following up and down the country. It's a classic, rounded style, oozing fruit with deft touches of oak and MLF (the butterscotch thing) to give depth and interest.
The 2008 Merlot/Franc is a cracker. Soft, round, juicy and very drinkable. Feedback so far has been hugely positive as it is exceptional value for money from a great red wine vintage.
Just released is the 2007 Basket Press, a rich, ripe beast from a very good vintage. It has plenty of dark fruit flavours and a big tannin backbone with a soft finish. Well past it's awkward adolescence and maturing into something you'd like to take home to mother. It is drinking very well now and will easily cope with another 5 years in the cellar.
For a special meal, or just to celebrate life, try the Erinview Vineyard Merlot 2007, from Redmetal partners Gary and Diane Simpson's small block also in the Triangle sub-region of Hawkes Bay. This is a very classy wine with super-ripe, juicy plum and licorice flavours topped off with dark chocolate tannins. Great drinking now or leave it in the cellar for another 6-8 years.
Winter has arrived so it's time to fill the cellar with sustenance for the indoor season ahead. Check out our orders pages for some great deals.
