We have recently been taken on by red+ white cellar for distribution in New Zealand. You'll still be able to buy off the website, but over the next few months you should see us popping up in a lot more places - especially restaurants. Any excuse to eat out...
The good news is that the 2017 Rose is now bottled and ready to drink. The bad news is that we are now down to the last few cases at the winery, so get in quick. Pale salmon in colour with subtle red fruit and a true Provencal savoury character, this is a great food-friendly style of Rose that will be fantastic over summer.
We have recently released the 2016 Syrah, and for those of you who delayed getting a case, please accept my apologies because we have now sold out of stock at the winery. Hope to have the 2017 Syrah bottled and available in February 2018. The 2015 Merlot/Franc is still flying out the door, proving that Pinotphiles have not yet taken over the civilised world. Dark, soft and succulent, it's a hard one to beat at the price.
Our 2016 Albarino is a little richer and fatter than the 2015, this is a brilliant seafood wine as well as doing a pretty decent job as an aperitif and general thirst quencher. For those of you living in or visiting Auckland, we have just had the Albarino listed at Ebisu restaurant on Quay St. If you're after the best modern Japanese food this side of Osaka (and a glass or two of Albarino to match) then I suggest you make a booking. Outstanding eatery.
Following on from the excellent 2014, the even more excellent 2015 Basket Press Syrah is now available. Another very warm growing season saw some super ripe fruit coming into the winery, and this time we had some very low yield, first crop fruit from our new Syrah clones to add interest to the mix. Wine critics Raymond Chan and Sam Kim have already rated this one 5 stars and Bob Campbell has just given it 95 points (5 stars) and ranked it #6 out of 47 NZ Syrahs tasted. Same rating as the $100+ wines in the tasting - just saying... His dissertation on the subject is below:
"Inky syrah with concentrated black-fleshed plum,
black berry, blackcurrant, liquorice and smoky oak flavours. Powerful wine that
is surprisingly accessible now but promises to age well. A very serious red." The Real Review October 2017
Don't have big stocks and this is moving fast.
Also hot off the press (if you'll excuse the pun) is the Basket Press Merlot/Franc 2016. From yet another warm growing season, it is dark, soft and ripe - and extremely moreish. Superb drinking already (and it's just a baby).
